
I was born in Illinois and moved to Utah when I was five years old. I am the oldest of six children. I grew up in a coalmining and railroading community in eastern Utah. Helper, Utah and Price, Utah are my home towns.
I graduated from Carbon High School in 1965. The College of Eastern Utah in 1967. Utah State University in 1970 and later received a master degree from USU in 1974.
I married Renate in 1970. We were high school sweethearts. We have two children, Heidi and Jason. Both are grown, married and living in Texas and Colorado. We have three grandchildren.
I have been working with local goverment since 1974. I have worked in Utah, Colorado and Washington.
I am also an acutioneer. Several years ago I attended the Western College of Auctioneering in Billings. I do fund raising auctions for numerous groups in Whatcom County including Habitat for Humanity, Boys and Girls Clubs, NW Indian College and Evergreen ALS Foundation.
